This article aims to show how the translation of audiovisual texts forces us to revise a number of recurrent issues of translation, particularly a traditional division that was quite prevalent, viz. Intralingual, interlingual and intersemiotic. It embarks upon, among other topics, linguistic approaches to translation, Translation Studies as a discipline and the priorities and restrictions of translation.
