In 2001 different programmes for training translation teachers were run in Tarragona (Spain), Rennes (France) and Monterey (USA). They responded to diverse international demands stemming from the creation of new translator-training programmes in many countries in recent years. All three might be described as experimental to one degree or another; all three met with significant degrees of success. The author outlines these programmes, their individual specificities and the results of the seminar developed at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain. He finally assesses the possibilities for cooperation as well as competition in the future development of such training.
