The two very different professions of an interpreter and a soldier are combined in a specialised military occupation: a military interpreter. This chapter analyses how the military's interests are reflected in the ethics training of military interpreters, focusing on the values and norms that form the professional ethics of each profession. The ethical requirements for military interpreters are evaluated in terms of the two theoretical orientations of the ethical dimension of military action competence as well as interpreter ethics. Drawing on interviews conducted with trainers of military interpreters in Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, the chapter outlines the expectations of military personnel and articulates the different positionalities and ethical dilemmas that are specific to military interpreters. The results propose topics and methods for the ethics training of military interpreters, support all interpreters working with the military, and contribute to the discussion on the ethics and the accountability of interpreters in conflict zones.
