Abstract

Translation as one of the forms of international mediation and respect for the cultures in contact is an ethical component of the translator's work. A profound knowledge of both cultures is one of the necessary requirements for the translator, to the same degree as linguistic competence. This paper shows how this conviction has influenced the translator training curriculum offered in the Institute of Romance Philology at the University of Wroclaw, Poland.
