Abstract
Gender in Translation, a classic work by Sherry Simon, deals with the place of translation in feminism and gender studies, but also the influence of feminism on the work of translation and its theorization. Written in 1996, at the height of the rise of Anglo-American cultural studies, the volume addresses, through a historical and critical approach, questions of literary activism and authority in translation. It contributes to contemporary debates on the modalities of transmission of texts and cultures. It is also part of an analysis of identity politics. A critical introduction and an afterword accompany the translation of this work. There will be a presentation of Anglo-American Translation Studies and of Simon's text and as well as a methodological toolbox illustrating feminist translation strategies of the text and an overview of the practices used in France.

Le genre en traduction, ouvrage classique de Sherry Simon, traite de la place de la traduction dans le féminisme et les études de genre (« gender »), mais aussi de l’influence du féminisme sur le travail de traduction et sur sa théorisation. Écrit en 1996, en plein essor des études culturelles anglo-américaines, le volume aborde, à travers une approche historique et critique, les questions d’activisme littéraire et d’autorité en traduction. Contribution essentielle aux débats contemporains sur les modalités de transmission des textes et des cultures, il s’inscrit également dans une analyse des politiques de l’identité. Une introduction critique et une postface enveloppent la traduction de cet ouvrage. On y trouvera une présentation des Translation Studies anglo-américaines, du texte de Simon, ainsi qu’une boite à outils méthodologique illustrant les stratégies de traduction féministe du texte et un panorama des pratiques actuelles en France.
