Abstract

In an ideal scenario, interpreter training should be conducted onsite, so that trainees may observe each other’s interpreting performance and receive timely feedback. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced numerous universities around the world to shift to virtual education by resorting to a plethora of different online platforms. This chapter discusses interpreter training during and after the pandemic at Shanghai International Studies University by analyzing questionnaires collected from interpreting students. The questionnaires focus on online interpreting course design and management, online assessment methods, and students’ feedback on the perceived challenges and difficulties. This chapter also sets out to illustrate the prospects for remote interpreting training. Given that remote interpreting is widely used in community interpreting, particular attention will also be dedicated to the future of community interpreting training in Chinese universities.
