Abstract
This chapter discusses how news about COVID-19 vaccine studies travelled across geographic and media boundaries, using Flanders as a case study. It focuses on the sourcing practices of three news outlets: Het Laatste Nieuws, the newspaper with the largest circulation; De Standaard, a quality newspaper; and Eos Wetenschap, a popular science magazine. News media in Flanders rely heavily on English-language sources for international news. Media outlets in Belgium also draw on news from Belga, a bilingual news agency based in Brussels. The authors found that specific individual, institutional, formal and systemic factors contributed to shaping how COVID-19 vaccine news was covered in Flanders.
