Abstract
The book presents a diverse analysis of translation techniques used in translation activities aimed at translating elements of third culture – a phenomenon that has had a minor role in translation studies. Situated in the paradigm of anthropocentric translation studies, the aim of the research was to discuss the essence of the elements of third culture as well as to trace which translation techniques and strategies were used to translate the names of these elements into German and Polish that are present in the five works of Dutch East Indies literature by two Dutch writers – Madelon Székely-Lulofs (1899-1958): “Rubber: Roman uit Deli” and “Koelie”, and Hella S. Haasse (1918-2011): “Oeroeg”, “Heren van de thee” and “Sleuteloog”.

Książka przedstawia polikonfrontatywną analizę zabiegów translatorskich zastosowanych w działaniach translacyjnych ukierunkowanych na tłumaczenie elementów trzeciej kultury – zjawiska, któremu dotychczas przypisywano marginalny charakter w badaniach nad translacją. Celem badań usytuowanych w paradygmacie translatoryki antropocentrycznej było omówienie istoty elementów trzeciej kultury, jak również prześledzenie, za pomocą jakich technik i w ramach jakich strategii tłumaczeniowych nazwy elementów trzeciej kultury zostały przetłumaczone w przekładach pięciu dzieł literatury Holenderskich Indii Wschodnich autorstwa dwóch holenderskich pisarek – Madelon Székely-Lulofs (1899–1958): "Rubber: Roman uit Deli" i "Koelie" oraz Helli S. Haasse (1918–2011): "Oeroeg", "Heren van de thee" i "Sleuteloog" – na języki niemiecki i polski.
