Abstract

With this paper the authors have tried to take in the main theories about Rhetoric and Translation, from the Classical World to the current theorists who deal with both of them. Although it is true that grammatical knowledge of language is essential to be able to translate, it is also necessary to know the rhetorical rules to achieve a good and beautiful translation. For this reason the authors show the fundamental relationship between translation and rhetoric, examining, among other aspects, the ornatus, and the style of prose and verse, everything focused on the last aim of every translation: the reader, so that the translator, avoiding original ambiguities, gives a version in such a way that the reader can follow the text from the beginning to the end with interest, without being bored nor getting annoyed.
