Abstract

The object of this article is to study the translation of technical metaphors in the context of foodstuffs and cooking instructions from English to Spanish. Metaphors represent the association of ideas using the smallest similarity, but some of them are so rooted in both languages that they are barely noticeable. The mechanisms that Spanish uses to translate from English are looked at as well as how the lame conceptual identity does not always trigger the Spanish translative calque that would have been perfectly valid.
