This article explores the determinacy of cultural translation by examining the connotations and relationships between “name” and “nature” in traditional Chinese philosophy. Based on the analysis of cultural and linguistic differences, this article asserts that cultural studies and translation studies can mutually elucidate and promote each other. Although the connotations of “name” and “nature” between different languages are complex, cultural translation is not impossible. Translators can achieve “good translation” by matching the “name” and “nature” between different cultures. If the “name” and “nature” do not match, the translator can achieve “appropriate translation” through methods such as "transliteration," “borrowing words to give meaning," and “imitating new words.”
