Abstract
This anthology was produced as part of the international conference on translation, "Tradurre è – anche – scommettere. Oder die Übersetzung als ‘Negoziazione’" [Translating is—also—betting. Or the translation as 'Negotiation'] (Bonn, November 22–24, 2010). The concept of 'negotiation', developed by Umberto Eco, according to which a negotiation component is always inherent in the translation process, served as the starting point for the contributions, which focused on both translation practice and the theoretical foundations of translation. This inherent negotiating character of translation is demonstrated in the contributions to this volume from a variety of perspectives, from theoretical reflection on the implications of the concepts of negotiation, alienation, and naturalization to a discussion of practical decisions in the translation of patents.
Zusammenfassung
Dieser Sammelband ist im Rahmen der internationalen Fachtagung zur Übersetzung «Tradurre è – anche – scommettere. Oder die Übersetzung als ‘Negoziazione’» entstanden (Bonn, 22.-24.11.2010). Als Ausgangspunkt der sowohl auf die Übersetzungspraxis als auch die theoretischen Grundlagen der Translation orientierten Beiträge diente das von Umberto Eco entwickelte Konzept der ‘Negoziazione’, nach welchem dem Übersetzungsprozess immer eine Verhandlungskomponente innewohnt. Dieser inhärente Verhandlungscharakter des Übersetzens wird in den Beiträgen des Bandes unter vielfältigen Aspekten aufgezeigt: von theoretischer Reflexion über die Implikationen des Verhandlungs-Begriffs, über Entfremdung und Einbürgerung bis zur Diskussion praktischer Entscheidungen bei der Übersetzung von Patenten.
