Autumn Water translated by Fujii Shozo came out in Japan in 1990, so he became one of the earliest translators of Mo Yan’s literature. At the beginning of his translation of Mo Yan’s literature, Fujii Shozo showed his clear understanding of Mo Yan’ s works and his deep power of literary criticism. In 1991, Fujii Shozo’ s evaluation about Mo Yan’s literature's “ magic realism” was highly consistent with the reason for which Mo Yan won Nobel Prize in Literature 21 years later. Fujii Shozo has been closely paying attention to the development of Mo Yan’s literature and also maintaining a high stability and continuity in translating said literature into Japan.
