Abstract

Based on Hughes’s PPP Washback Effect Model (1993) and Alderson & Wall’s washback effect hypothesis (1993), this study explores the washback effect of interpreting tests. It takes the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) interpreting test as an example, draws on examination, questionnaire survey, and in-depth interviews, and investigates the effects of the test on the learning process and outcome of 139 undergraduate or graduate candidates. Results show that the test has an overt and positive washback effect on the learning process and outcomes. In terms of learning process, the test has a great impact on the content, methods, and attitudes in interpreting learning; in terms of learning outcomes, the test has greatly increased the motivation of interpreting trainees and improved their competence. Suggestions for further improving the positive washback effect of the test are provided.

摘要

本文基于休斯(Hughes,1993)的PPP反拨效应模式,以及奥尔德森和沃尔(Alderson&Wall,1993)的反拨效应假设等理论成果,探索了口译测试的反拨效应。本文以全国翻译专业资格(水平)考试(CATTI)口译考试为例,使用考试、问卷调查与深度访谈等研究方法调查了该考试对139名考生的学习过程与学习结果的影响。研究表明,该考试对口译学习过程与结果产生了显性的积极反拨效应。在学习过程方面,考试较大地影响了口译的学习内容、方法与态度等;在学习结果方面,考试较大地激发了口译学习动机,提高了译员能力。本文最后提出该考试可在完善考试设计理念与增加相关资源投入方面的五点建议与设想。
