The Hieronymus Translation Studies Research Group, founded in 2016 and now internationalised, aims to cultivate all branches of translation studies—theoretical, descriptive and applied—mainly from a literary and cultural studies approach, creating a link between the translation studies of the Hungarian literary and cultural studies, which are based primarily on linguistics, and the translation studies of the Hungarian literary and cultural studies. The joint work aims at renewing Hungarian translation studies: on the one hand, it is concerned with the establishment of international translation research trends and the processing of the heritage of Hungarian translation literature and translation studies, and on the other hand, it represents Hungarian translation studies in international forums. Another objective of the research group is to disseminate knowledge, to step out of the ivory tower: to make translation and interpreting more visible and familiar to society, to present the results of translation studies to the translation profession, potential users, and the general public in the form of regular lectures and articles. This book serves both of these purposes and also demonstrates the unity and diversity of a relatively new academic workshop at Pázmány Péter Catholic University: a succession of papers by experienced translation scholars and translators at the zenith of their careers, a succession of PhDs representing the next generation of young researchers at the beginning of their careers, and a succession of papers by even younger PhD students in translation.
