Abstract
Multilingual audiovisual works include fragments in L3—i.e. in any language different from the dominant language in the source text and the dominant language in the target text. L3 are often subtitled, even in traditionally dubbing countries. These subtitles are a barrier for visually impaired users, who will need to have them made explicit verbally through audio subtitling (AST). This chapter provides teachers and self-taught students with tools and tasks to learn about and practice this submodality of audio description. Firstly, AST is defined and its characteristics, the problems it poses and the strategies for solving them are described. Then, a didactic proposal that could be adapted to other educational settings is presented.
