This essay deals with the reception of Miłosz's poetry in America. Read at first through a political prism, as testimony to the history of the twentieth century - in particular the Second World War and communism - Miłosz poetry has in the last decade been appreciated by the most important American critics for its moral, philosophical and artistic merits. The article only touches upon the aspect of translation.
