Bellos argues that translation can arouse passionate reactions of a moral and emotional kind. According to him, people have feelings about translation that are sometimes close to being views or even theories. In this article, he illustrates this area of translation-emotions with examples from his own translation experience. Bellos discusses the translation of French texts - which are acknowedged to be difficult and frequently described as 'impossible' - into English. He focuses on imitative translation as an appropriative procedure by which the translator makes him- or herself visible.
