Abstract
The aim of this article is to propose and discuss a methodology for teaching prose translation (Spanish-English). The first section of the article provides a brief outline of the present situation of this discipline. The second and more extensive part of the article deals with the methodology that the authors propose. More specifically, the authors discuss the following topics: 1) general translation as an introduction to translation into a non-mother tongue, offering the students a step-by-step approach to the translation process 2) specialized translation which provides the opportunity to develop and refine the techniques already acquired, continue with a more in-depth study of the practice of translation and translate more specialized texts into a non-mother tongue; and 3) related topics within the field of translation into a non-mother tongue, such as a proposal for a system of evaluation, self-correction, and proof-reading and editing.
