Abstract
Due to the exchanges run by the University of Granada, every academic year students from foreign universities join the classes at the Translation Faculty. This atypical group of students can lead to problems of different kinds in relation to directionality, upsetting and distorting the concept of directionality as originally intended. The authors deal firstly with the specific situation in their Faculty (information on the exchange programmes, profile of the foreign students...), and then go on to discuss briefly the question of A-B translation in the traditional sense of the concept. Having set the scene, they attempt to describe the implications of this distortion effect for the classroom, and finally offer solutions designed to correct it, which may lead us to call into question the usefulness of the concept of AB translation.
