Abstract
In their contacts via interpreters both immigrants and authorities make use of special phrases and terms that the interpreter must be able to understand and translate to secure that information is conveyed correctly. This terminology is very often not found in general language dictionaries. Terminology courses for interpreters and translators should contain instruction and practical work on all levels. Standardization and harmonization of terminology (terminology planning) comes into play for example in the development of modern technical terminology for minority languages.
