Abstract
This article embarks upon the following questions: does the translator have the right to propose his own interpretation of the text when the author leaves open the choice between multiple (generally two) interpretations? What is the role of the personal value system of the reader, in the occurrence of the translator, in the construction of one interpretation? These questions are illustrated by the analysis of the original text of the novel Other Voices, Other Rooms by Truman Capote and of an ‘interpretative’ translation of this oeuvre.
