Abstract
In his attempts to shed some light on the translatability of texts and to “come to terms with the otherness of language”, Benjamin finds the inspiration for his theoretical reflections on translation in Rudolf Pannwitz’s Die Krise der europäischen Kultur.” In this article, Benjamin wonders whether translation is intended for readers who do not understand the original. Furthermore, he embarks upon translatability and the traditional theory of translation.
