Abstract

The purpose of this article is not to propose another code of ethics or code of best practice. Nevertheless, a surprisingly large number of codes of ethics has already been drafted for court interpreters all over the world. The author wonders whether it would not be more logical and preferable to have a universal code of ethics adopted by all court interpreters, similar to that known in other professions. In the following, the author attempts to explain briefly why the issue of court interpreting ethics is so confused, and suggests possible solutions using a comparison with other professions, in particular the medical profession.
