Abstract

This contribution makes use of evaluation of works of translation, but with the aim of honing student’s communicative proficiency. Referring to various translations into English of Isaac Babel, a Ukrainian-born, Russian-speaking Jew, the author isolates those moments in which the translations show communicate flaws. The author proposes an important role for translation criticism in teaching translation competence.
