Abstract

In this paper, the author asks how training programmes can facilitate social transformation and dispense with linguistic inequality. Her solution is that training programmes should be intended for the promotion of multilingualism in order to give power to people on a linguistic field. Translators therefore need to be trained not only to cross linguistic frontiers, but also to challenge linguistic prejudice and social inequity. She suggests that translators be trained at pre-tertiary, undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
