Sapire, Hannietjie. 1994. The guiding principle in translation: faithfulness, manipulation or relevance? In Kruger, Alet, ed. New perspectives on teaching translators and interpreters in South Africa. Muckleneuk: University of South Africa. pp. 34–40.

Abstract

In this paper, the author argues that translation training can gain more from a linguistic approach to translation within the ‘old-fashioned’ framework of faithfulness/equivalence than from the manipulation approach. The aim of this paper is to investigate the concepts behind the theory and practice of translation.
