Abstract

In the present article, Alcaraz concentrates on pragmatics and translation from the perspective of linguistic manipulation. The paper acknowledges the important contributions of the models emerging from structuralism and generativism in the earlier stages of linguistic analysis applied to translation, but asserts that more thorough potentialities for a better grip on the act of translation and of traductology can be found in the theories and models provided by the linguistic paradigm called pragmatics: the analysis and contrast of the textual meanings (implication, presupposition, etc.) of the passages of the source and target languages, and the scrutiny of their textual items, such as cohesion, coherence, thematization, etcetera can widen the scope of Translation Studies.
