Abstract
This article focuses on cognates in translation teaching. The authors have carried out a test using well-known false friends at university level. The test was carried out in three different universities where English and Spanish were studied. Three different universities were chosen, an American university, an English university and a Spanish one, where all the learners belonged to a similar level of studies. The results indicate that even though the questions were made on very familiar words, there were quite a lot of mistakes.
