This paper is based on the results of a working group of DAAD lectors that assembled during a two-year period from 1992 to 1994. The goal of this working group was to develop a model curriculum for interpreting and translating. It based its work on a status quo of existing training programms, including those in Latin America. The author presents the foundations of the model curriculum and explains the need for translator and interpreter training programs that include German in Latin America.
