Abstract
In the light of the discourse used by descriptive research on translation in the Middle Ages, the authors undertake a meta-discursive and critical task in line with recent orientations in translation research which call into question the 'descriptive' nature of translation research. The authors explore the implications derived from the conviction that historical discourse on cultural transfer is a type of transfer itself.
