Abstract
The aim in this chapter is to give a fairly broad and thematic overview of work currently undertaken in the area of multilingual corpus alignment. The thematic nature of the overview will be along the continuum of comparing 'statistical' with 'knowledge based' approaches to alignment. This is a familiar theme within language engineering / computational linguistics, so it is no surprise to find it applies to this fairly new area of activity. The breadth of the review will be provided by reviewing a fairly comprehensive range of techniques in alignment as currently conceived.
