Abstract

It is an unquestionable fact that translation into a foreign language constitutes a real professional activity which all translators will end up doing at some point in their professional lives. This fact is usually reflected in the course programmes of the different Spanish university departments where Translation is taught, in the form of modules, whether they are compulsory or optional, in translation into a foreign language. The German language is taught less and less in pre-university education and the proliferation of new departments of Translating and Interpreting means the 'customers' are even more thinly spread than before. If we take into account the high demand for translators working in the Spanish-German combination, it is obvious that there is a need for an immediate reaction on the part of the education authorities if the situation is not to get entirely out of control.
