Starting from a theoretical positioning of translation studies as an interdisciplinary discipline, the author presents comics in their sociological, cultural and semiotic complexity. He offers a historical overview of the translation of comics in the Germanspeaking regions and provides the reader with analytical tools to study their linguistic, visual and typographical aspects. He finally illustrates how varied the - often manipulative - treatment of comics in the translation practice is.
