Abstract
This paper focuses on a vital aspect of multicultural transfer: the different and changing roles of French literary mediators during the eighteenth century; more specifically; the changing role of French intermediate translations in eighteenth-century Germany. This study, concerned with the persistence of French literary models in indirect German translations of fictional prose, outlines the different patterns displayed depending on genre and point in time.
