Abstract

Sociolinguistic constraints that significantly interfere with translators’ creativity occur primarily in religious, legal, and classical texts. This paper first analyses sociolinguistic constraints in translating religious texts. Next, it looks into sociolinguistic constraints in the translation of legal terminology. Sociolinguistic constraints in the translation of the classics constitute the next topic. Finally, the paper discusses the range of sociolinguistic constraints.
