The book is divided in two parts, in addition to a prologue of the authors, the note of the translators and a bibliography. In the first part H. J. Vermeer develops a general translation theory based on the skopos theory. In the second part, K. Reiss develops specific theories on certain important aspects for the modern translation studies.
