Abstract
This paper argues that a) Levý’s approach to translating as a decision process is valid for all types of translating and interpreting, consecutive interpreting (CI) included; and b) the study of the latter in this theoretical framework can throw light on the specific creativity needed in consecutive interpreting and the optimalization of the consecutive interpreter’s (Cir) strategy for a felicitous realization of the communicative act.
