Abstract

Translation is one of the ways of transitive interpretation, that is, of interpretation of a linguistic expression, which gives another linguistic expression as a result of it. This interpretation implies the transformation of the source text into a different text, the target text; and the transference of this text, that is the result of translation, to other receivers (Albaladejo 1998: 32-34). Translation is a textual and semiotic process (Petöfi 1975:125-127, 1982, 1991; Tonfoni 1982; Albaladejo 1982). Together with translation, literary criticism and philological editions are within transitive interpretation. Translation and interpretation are two processes closely related: every interpretation is translation within the same language or from one language to another, according to George Steiner (1977: 17-18).
