Abstract

This article features the influence of Orlando Furioso, an Italian poem by Lodovico Aristo that was published in 1532, in Elizabethan England. It analyses Sir John Harrington's transposition of the poem into English in 1591 and the poem's influence on Shakespeare and Spenser. It also discusses the popularity of John Harrington's translation and the book's role in defining the cultural interchange between Elizabethan England and Renaissance Italy.
