The papers in this volume explore translation as a cultural practice in concrete historical situations. They all deal with Latin America, yet they explore different countries (Argentina; Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands), different perspectives (translator, critic, theorist), different genres and different media. They focus on the conditions, strategies and results of the translation processes and situate the role and function of translations for linguistics, literary and cultural studies in Latin America.
