The author attempts to define adaptation as opposed to translation, and concludes that an adaptation focuses on the general sense of the source text and tries to rebuild a 'communicative balance' which would have been broken with a mere translation. He also defends the legitimacy of adaptation, as long as the adaptators remain coherent towards their own texts and acknowledge their sources.
