The main aim in this article is to highlight the relevance of translating factual information correctly. This kind of information very often appears in historical texts. The author shows in this paper how an inappropriate translation affects the interpretation and comprehension of the facts described, in the case of historical texts. The author analyzes short passages of Neighbours, a book written by Jan T. Gross, where we find the narration of real facts that took place in a small Polish village during World War II. The main tool here is the comparison of some original passages, written in Polish, with their translation into English by Gross. In short, the author emphasizes the importance of bearing in mind aspects such as context and language nuances when translating, since they are essential to obtain an account of true facts that is as accurate as possible.
