Abstract
José Marchena was a famous champion of French ways (mainly enlightenment vs. absolute monarchy) in the beginnings of the 19th century. The author provides an overview of the studies on this translator, emphasizes his modernness and analyses his theory of translation, concluding that, curiously enough, he is not original at all in this regard.
