Abstract
This article deals with readability in translation; the focus is on the applicability of the so-called cloze method to the measurement of readability in translated children’s fiction. The cloze method was used in a study on the readability of two Finnish translations of an American children’s book, Baum's The Wizard of Oz. Readability is a major consideration both in the writing and in the translation of children’s books.
