There is scope for improvement in translation classes given at universities, in terms of their market orientation, their theoretical foundations, the order of progression and the pedagogical strategies used. Subjects could also be ordered on the basis of text types, extra linguistic determinants and professional tasks. Parameters are offered as a guide to developing a study plan.
