In this study, the author looks at the relationship between similarity and strangeness, taking a German translation of New Testament and Early Christian texts as a case in point. Similarity means being alike or like something else, resembling something else. Strangeness also implies a comparison. Strangeness, therefore, implies an observing subject with previous knowledge and expectation, and it is an evaluative concept. Unlike dissimilarity, strangeness is surprising, disturbing, or even alarming. What is similar from an objective point of view may be strange from an individual, personal perspective, and vice versa.
