Abstract
Although repetitions have a major function in literary texts, avoiding repetitions is one of the most recurrent norms of translation. So much so that it may be more accurate to refer to it as a universal of translation. The techniques of avoiding repetition vary from cancelling them altogether to replacing them with synonyms. When such solutions are impossible, translators may revert to announcing the repetition.
