Abstract
This article attempts to bypass arguments over the ‘possibility’ of fully-automatic high-quality machine translation by arguing that all translation in the world today is already ‘cyborg-translation’ – translation involving some significant interface between humans and machines. It then uses cyborg theory to suggest some new ways of thinking about translation and to redirect CAT research and its practical applications.
