All Borges’s writings and not just his autobiographical production, testify to the importance of reading and translating in his work. In the poem entitled Un lector, Borges describes himself as a reader, conveying his satisfaction for the pages he had read and not for those he had written. His intellectual development was largely influenced by his readings of translated works, including Don Chischiotte, and by his experiments in translation. Both literary writing and translation are oriented by values connected with the logic of Other and not of Self. In other words, the centre in writing and translation is not the Self but the Other. Therefore to refer to the word of the Other is fundamental. Through his writings and reflections Borges not only theorizes his creative connection but materializes it.
